Mission
The Good Neighbor Center (GNC) creates life-changing opportunities for Pre-K through College youth utilizing our multifaceted development program focused on academic tutoring, wholesome meals, the value of play, and building healthy relationships, all skills that children can use now and into adulthood.
Welcome
At the GNC, our vision is to empower youth to value knowledge and skills that will support them as life-long learners and practice core values like respect, kindness, inclusion, and excellence.
With our focus on education equity, working with many who have English as a second or even third language, we recognize each individual has a unique potential and redefine the definition of success because achievement looks different for every learner. Whether their choice is to practice academics in workbooks, activities, in a one-on-one tutoring session or enjoy a read aloud, our objective is to build a safe community for learners who strive to excel.
Like many, we do our best when we feel connected with others and have a full belly which is why we’ve partnered with Appetites for Change who provide a meal including a protein, grain, and vegetable during our days of operation, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings year-round from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
We’re so excited you stopped by!
Our Program
Academic Tutoring
The GNC tutoring experience and one-on-one attention can help a child develop better study skills, increase their knowledge of core subjects, and ignite a passion for learning.
Wholesome Meals
Oftentimes food insecurity and access to healthy food is a challenge for our children and their families. That’s why GNC ensures that while children are participating in our programs, they consume a healthy meal, fruit, milk and water.
Value of Play
Play helps children gain healthy emotional development as well as social skills, it’s how they learn to get along with others, take turns, sportsmanship, and so much more.
Healthy Relationships
Our volunteer tutors seek to inspire, build trust, and genuinely want to help learners succeed. Methods like learning, eating, and playing together are all purposeful, cooperative activities used to build, sustain, and model healthy relationships.
