Welcome to the Good Neighbor Center!
Learning looks different for everyone.
Perhaps your child is struggling in school. Maybe an extra push is necessary. Or, English is a second or third language adding an extra layer of complexity.
We offer year-round programming, school-year and summer, to keep your student on track!
Strategies That Motivate and Designed for Young Learners
The Good Neighbor Center (GNC) aims high to close the education gap that prevents many young people from achieving their full potential as students. Our volunteer tutors focus on getting young people up to speed academically through academic practice and one-on-one tutoring, bonding over a shared meal, promoting the value of free time and play, and mentoring and mirroring healthy relationships.
Summer learning helps young people improve academics, keep them busy, and give them something to look forward to three times a week. When summer educational resources are slim, our program can keep skills sharp, provide the extra oomph for students who need additional time to master academic content, and prevent summer brain drain.
Our program
Academic Tutoring
The GNC tutoring experience and one-on-one attention can help a child develop better study skills, increase their knowledge of core subjects, and ignite a passion for learning.
Wholesome Meals
Oftentimes food insecurity and access to healthy food is a challenge for our children and their families. That’s why GNC ensures that while children are participating in our programs, they consume a healthy meal, fruit, milk and water.
Value of Play
Play helps children gain healthy emotional development as well as social skills, it’s how they learn to get along with others, take turns, sportsmanship, and so much more.
Healthy Relationships
Our volunteer tutors seek to inspire, build trust, and genuinely want to help learners succeed. Methods like learning, eating, and playing together are all purposeful, cooperative activities used to build, sustain, and model healthy relationships.
Our Resources Support Your Student’s Momentum
Our vision of a better world for our young people is uncompromising which is why our efforts are organic, continuing to evolve with the demands of our community. While still a small organization, we look to grow, and keep aligned with our mission and vision to shape the lives of our youth. To support our community beyond what we’ve shared we also:
